The basic ingredients of the Ynight

Basic Ingredients

Ynight Core Team:

Etienne Abelin or Andreas Fleck - Curation, Artistic Direction, Hosting

Jones Mettler of Aaawesome Colors - Visuals

Nik! of Hula Honeys - DJ

Music Animation Machine animations by Björk visualizer Stephen Malinowski (see TEDxAmsterdam talk "A GPS for Music")

2 - X musicians becoming the Yband of the night

Location, Technical Set-Up: A relaxed space with nice light, a bar,  a PA and projector and screen for the visuals and Music Animation Machine animations.

Process: Doors open an hour before the first live act, soft electronic music welcomes guests. The choice of electronic music and transitions to the live acts is specifically designed for each program. Two to three live acts of about 30 minutes each are at the center of the evening. Each of them is introduced by the host who provides the context, introduces and interviews the musicians. Between the live acts, the DJ takes over and creates a sense of space so the guests get refreshed and ready to focus intensely on the dense live acts again. VJ Jones Mettler selects visual material specifically for each program and improvises during the live acts and in the short DJ sets between them. In the second live act, the Music Animation Machine is presented. The audience is invited to try the tool in a short workshop between live acts after which one audience member joins to musicians of the evening in a short performance of a short piece. Sometimes the last DJ set leads to a dance party. More information about the Music Animation Machine live here.
